  • Clean Air at Lambeth Country Show

    Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 12:00 PM through July 23, 2018
    Brockwell Park

    CLEAN OUR AIR – free arts project for all – JOIN US!

    The Red Line Rooftop Gallery, supporting climate and environmental campaigns, returns to Lambeth Country Show on 21 & 22 July. This year, giant willow letters will be bejewelled with thousands of recycled flowers, each one calling “CLEAN OUR AIR!”

    Pupils from Peter Hills Primary in Southwark, are leading this collaboration with three other schools (Dulwich Infants’ Village School, Boutcher and St Peter’ Primary School) local parent campaigning group Mums for Lungs, supported by artist Hannah Littlejones of UpsideArts.

    This project will raise awareness about air pollution:

    • How it affects us all;
    • How we can reduce exposure;
    • How we can reduce air pollution; and
    • Which actions policy makers need to implement to protect all of us.

    The sculpture will be exhibited at Lambeth Country Show on 21 & 22 July with FREE activities:

    • Create a recycled flower to decorate the sculpture
    • Learn more about pollution in our clean-air-gallery, and
    • Have your voice heard by signing a petition.

    Join the Clean Our Air procession – leaving on Sunday, 22 July, around 5pm from the Eco-village!

    The sculpture adorned with your flowers will be exhibited on the roof top of Olley’s Fish Experience in Herne Hill.

    Background

    Air pollution contributes to 9,500 early deaths per year in London. Children with growing lungs are the most affected by air pollution. Air pollution contributes to asthma, bronchiolitis, stunted lung growth, cancer, dementia and many other preventable illnesses (report by King’s College London).

    In London half of air pollutants (NO2 and particulate matters) are emitted by road transport, especially diesel vehicles (London Environment Strategy 2018).

    Global Action Plan estimates that every diesel car in London costs the NHS and society £8,000.
