Southwark Council declared a Climate Emergency on Wednesday 27 March, following a cross-party campaign led by Southwark Greens. Campaigners who came together to give evidence to the full Southwark Council Assembly included Plan B, who are taking the government to court in an attempt to stop the Heathrow expansion, Fossil Free Southwark who campaign for divestment from fossil fuels, air pollution campaigners Mums for Lungs, and students who had gone on climate strike.
What does a Climate Emergency mean for the borough? What steps can the council take to become carbon-neutral by 2030?
How can local organisations, activists and individuals be involved in making these crucial changes?
