Newington By-Election

A By-Election has been called for Newington Ward due to the resignation of a Labour councillor. The poll takes place on Thursday 29 June and we're really pleased that local Green Party member and activist Ruben Gonzalez Buendia has been selected to fight the seat. The Green Party came second in the 2022 Council Elections with 15% of the vote and we hope Ruben can do even better this time round.

About Ruben, in his own words...

'I joined the Green Party because it's the only party that offers hope and belief in a different future. As an
immigrant from a Latin American family, I have witnessed firsthand how
people in power often ignore those most affected by their decisions.

I am compelled to stand up and be the voice for those who have been left
behind, not only within the Latino community but also among other ethnic
minorities. I aim to represent those who have been displaced due to
gentrification and those who have lost hope in the future as a result of
falling wages and longer working hours.'
