London Green Party Officially Joins the Together Alliance

March

London Green Party has announced its official endorsement of the Together Alliance, reaffirming its commitment to standing shoulder to shoulder with all London communities at a time when increasingly divisive and harmful rhetoric often goes unchallenged.

Greens across the city are working hard through grassroots organising to win local elections, fight austerity and push back against the rise of the far right. Joining the Together Alliance is another way to strengthen this collective effort because when we are united, there is hope.

Livvy Gibbs, Movements Lead for London Green Party Executive Committee.

“The politics of the far right are deeply regressive, now more than ever. They point fingers and demand that hard-won rights should be rolled back. That is not a serious response to the pressures people are under daily, and awareness of these divisive distraction tactics is growing.

We reject the idea that migrants or minority communities are to blame for the so-called ‘broken Britain’. People recognise that the systems shaping their lives aren’t working.

That didn’t happen because of our neighbours, but because of political choices from successive governments that have concentrated wealth and power at the top while too many people are pushed to the margins.

Joining the Together Alliance is about being clear that London belongs to all of us.

When we stand together across our communities, we are far stronger than division.”

The Together Alliance is made up of hundreds of civil society organisations representing over 7 million people. The London Party represents over 37,000 members who reside in London and are encourage to joined the protest on 28 March in central London if they can. The London Greens are also the first arm of a mainstream party to commit to the Alliance although 4 of our 5 Green MPs and Zack Polanski have endorsed the statement.

Kevin Courtney, interim chair of Together Alliance:

“Far right politics represents the biggest threat it ever has in Britain – and on 28 March we’re standing together to say we won’t be divided. It’s so important mainstream parties join the mobilisation of over 200 organisations that are calling for unity against the far right. Together we can turn the tide.”

The London Green Party see this movement as the beginning of real change, beyond electoral politics.

Eugene McCarthy, Chair of the London Green Party:

“Real change won’t come from Westminster. We build it by organising our communities and standing up to fight for ourselves. The London Green Party is committed to that long-term, grassroots power in every corner of our city.”

The Together Alliance is organising mass, countrywide mobilisation for The March To Stop The Far Right on Saturday 28 March in central London. The Green Party will be attending with a Green bloc and everyone is welcome.
