Screening of The Spider's Web - a documentary film exploring the City of London's tacit endorsement of tax havens, which allow rich corporations and individuals to avoid and evade their tax.

The film profiles the demise of the British empire and shows how the City of London continued to protect its financial interests by creating a complex network of 'secrecy jurisdictions'. These jurisdictions serve to capture the wealth from across the globe and hide it in a web of offshore islands.

Today, up to half of the wealth is hidden in British jurisdictions and Britain and its dependencies are the largest global players in the world of international finance.

The makers of the documentary argue that we need to create a fairer tax system that forces those with the greatest ability to pay to make the largest contribution. In doing so it asks how we can generate a proper tax system that is socially and economically fair?
