What an amazing year!

The Green Party's recent ‘Green Surge’ in popularity has helped Southwark Green Party come a long way in 2025. We are already working to solve council-related problems for the borough's residents.
Divestment from Palestine
Recognising the genocide in Palestine was the final motion approved at the Green Party conference in Bournemouth (3-5 October). As Southwark Green Party, we voted to condemn Israel's brutal war against the people of Gaza as part of a motion to demand that the British government stop arming Israel, and support divestment from companies connected with Israel's attack. This includes the £97M of Southwark Council's pension funds invested in such funds.
Membership numbers

Southwark Green Party doubled our party membership in 2025 and had 1,000 members by early October and by mid November, doubled our membership again with over 2,000 members. We are heading towards 2,500 nembers. A little time together with the great talents of our additional members empower us to progress more rapidly. We have doubled the size of our exec committee recently with newly-elected EDI, Membership, Communications, Campaigns, and Fundraising officers, and a social secretary.
Care for Brunswick Park

Following one of our litterpicking sessions in a park in the middle of Southwark, we then helped to move earth dug up by the creation of a new pond.
We’re always looking for more people to help with our community projects (Green Party members or not!).
Green councillors

Last but certainly not least: the Green Party already has councillors in Southwark sooner than we'd hoped! Rotherhithe councillor Kath Whittam joined the Green Party on 4th November and Faraday councillor Sam Foster also defected from Labour a month later.
Councillor Kath Whittam left the Labour Party in July following the chaotic leadership elections. She sat as an independent councillor before becoming Southwark's first Green Party councillor for 15 years.
Kath Whittam is already supporting residents across Southwark.
The two councillors have now established a Green Party office within the Southwark Council Building in the north of the borough.
2026
With 2025 being such a success we can’t wait for 2026.
Southwark Green Party are hoping for our best ever results in the May 2026 local elections, when all 63 candidates for borough councillors are up for election
There’s never been a better time to join the Green Party.
