  • Petition hand in

    Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 10:30 AM
Department for Communities and Local Government in London, United Kingdom

After the Grenfell fire, Southwark Green party member John Tyson started a petition aimed at getting the Department for Communities and Local Government to implement the findings from the Lakanal fire inquest, which Eric Pickles had all but ignored.

    Recommendations from the report include:

    • use of fire resistant materials
    • regular fire assessments
    • providing residents with full instructions about what to do in the event of a fire.

The petition received 80,000 signatures, from people up and down the UK.

Next week John and others concerned about the safety of our homes will be delivering the petition to the Department for Communities and Local Government.

If you would like to join us, full details are here or just come along to 2 Marsham Street at 10.30am on Tuesday 22 August.

  • Big Bottle Count

    Saturday, September 02, 2017 at 12:00 PM
Millwall Dock in London, United Kingdom

Do something practical to clean up the river! Help get single-use plastics out of the sea - starting near home.

We're joining Thames 21 and the #OneLess bottle campaign to count (and remove) plastic drink bottles.

With the help of volunteers all across the tidal Thames, Thames 21 are going to attempt to count and remove all the bottles on river's foreshore, and with that send an important message about the scale of this challenge. Last year, they visited 11 sites and retrieved 2,500 bottles.

Southwark Greens will be at Millwall Dock - we'll meet at Canada Water and head over to Canary Wharf together. The events will be between noon and 5pm depending on tides.

Please register here saying you'd like to help at Millwall Dock and drop us a line on if you want to meet up to travel there together.

  • Monthly Green social and discussion

    Wednesday, September 06, 2017 at 07:00 PM
    TBC in London, United Kingdom

Did you know that ALL Green Party members have an opportunity to make and amend the party's policies? All members can attend conference (and non-members can attend as observers).

This evening, we'll be talking about the policies scheduled for discussion at this year's Green Party conference (Harrogate, 7-10 October). And we'll have a quick introduction to how the process works too - especially useful if you're planning to go to conference for the first time.

All members, supporters and friends welcome to the discussion.
